Checking out San Diego’s newest microbrewery Wet N Reckless

We heard there was a small new microbrewery that had opened up a month ago in Mira Mesa. Since it was on the way home from work (with a minor detour),  we stopped in for a couple beers.

Wet ‘N  Reckless Brewing is a nanobrewery located in a small business park. Dave the owner is an ex home brewer that has taken his craft to the next level. We enjoyed the couple of beers we sampled.

The Destroyer IPA was a bit malty with minimal hop bitterness which was very drinkable. I usually prefer my IPA ‘s super hoppy but nevertheless enjoyed this.

The Super Ridiculous Stout is a heavier stout which was a bit sweet. According to Dave it is a combination milk and oatmeal stout.

All of the beers have creative names, and I was a bit bummed that I didn’t sample the lighter “Pop My Cherry Ale”, but hey it was a weekday. :)

Sampling Ballast Point Brewery’s Tongue Buckler Cask Ale

We stopped by Ballast Point’s Scripps Ranch location after work to sample their Tongue Buckler Cask Imperial Red Ale. The brewery was fairly busy with the post work / happy hour crowd but we quickly found a table.

The Tongue Buckler Cask Ale is served slightly warmer which is perfect for this type of beer. It is a heavier red ale that seemed to get most of its’ initial bitterness from the malt but there is a dry hop finish.  It was served by the half pint only which was fine since it has a 10% ABV. A few of these and you will be calling a taxi.

I followed it up with a Sea Monster Stout which I really enjoyed. The Sea Monster Stout is a medium-thick body Imperial Stout with a slight sweet finish and moderate carbonation. It is another 10% ABV beer so it is not what I would call a session beer. :)
